Day 3, Sunday July 3, 2011

After a great breakfast, we all loaded up into three cars and drove the scenic loop around through Red River to Taos. Detouring just before arriving in Taos, we drove west for seven miles to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. It was a test for those with "height issues"...but a beautiful sight.

Next we drove into Taos for a lunch at Michael's Kitchen and an afternoon around the plaza shops.

On the drive from Angel Fire to Red River, we were treated to a beautiful drive over Bobcat Pass...... 80 feet shy of 10k feet.

Most of our commuting about, involved three or four cars.

It was fun to lead the Mathis Clan out the highway west of Taos.  Basically it is a flat plane of sage brush and then, all of the sudden...... the Rio Grando Gorge opens up below you.  Only the brave one's ventured out on the bridge to view the water at the bottom, only 660 feet below.

As with any visit to Taos, we had to spoil ourselves to a lunch at Michael's Kitchen.

After lunch, we headed down to the city center, plaza area.  Everyone visited the little shops while Gary and Judy relaxed on a bench and enjoyed the "people watching".  Aren't they a cute couple!!!

On the drive back to Taos, we completed the Enchanted Circle Drive, over Palo Flechado Pass at 9,101 feet.  The drive down the backside was a twisty, turny challenge.

Day 2, Saturday July 2, 2011

Just a day or two prior to leaving, it dawned on us to schedule a Tee Time for the round of golf we wanted to play. The only day available was Saturday, so we set the time at 8:30am. Chris, John, Charles and Tyler had a great time on the Angel Fire Country Club Resort Course.

Gary, the Ladies and kiddos enjoyed a lazy day around the house.

The course was in really good shape and the four of us had a great time.

As we played the 16th hole by the house, Emily was able to join us for the final two holes.

It didn't take the Grandparents long to learn how to enjoy the deck and the pine scents and the grandkids and the bird watching.

Holly found a comfy chair.

Paw Paw had no difficulty dozing off for a nap every day.

And.....Paw Paw played July Santa.

Night #2 found Holly at the grill, precisely cooking the hotdogs and hamburger patties.

John brewed up a concoction of New Mexico Green Chilies in a crock pot that lasted three days.

Birthday #2 found Judy blowing out a single candle that represents 65 great years.

Day 1, Friday July 1, 2011

This was a travel day for everyone. Gary and Judy had been on a tour of the west to include a couple of days at the Grand Canyon and were now in Albuquerque. Chris and Holly flew up to Albuquerque, rented a car and connected with Gary and Judy for lunch before the drive up to Angel Fire. Charles and Kendra were on a two-day trip, spending the night in Clovis and then driving some serious backroads (including dirt) to get to our vacation home. The Lane Family caravanned down in the Touareg and Tyler's Golf. Everyone arrived within thirty minutes of one another, around 5pm.

Rory welcomed us to our home for the weekend.

It didn't take long for the kids to request a "hike".

The first dinner was a Fajita Feast.  Like any great family, we have perfected the art of socialization in the kitchen.

Not to let a Family Reunion ruin a birthday party, we all helped Lexie celebrate her 8th.
